BETHEL — Two teens from Bethel were charged Tuesday with a January incident in which a student was assaulted after getting off a school bus, according to police.

On January 10, two teenagers approached a student as he exited a school bus at the intersection of Hickok Avenue and Wooster Street. One of the teenagers “used racial slurs while assaulting him,” police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the other teenager physically intimidated the student, police said.

Police said they arrested both teens on Tuesday. One was charged with third-degree assault, breach of peace and intimidation based on bigotry or bias. He was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

The other was charged with breach of peace and was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

The teens are due in court later this month, police said.
